Hi, I’m Jamie! I’m an information technology specialist, I’m a woman, and I’m excited to share my story with you. *record scratch* What? A woman. In IT? You read right folks; they let us in and churned us out into the IT workforce and now we, women in IT, are a force to be reckoned with!
Look… I’m not some social justice warrior looking to make every little thing about injustice for me and my (few) female co-workers, but to say there’s some inequality with regard to women in IT isn’t breaking news. Pointing out that inequality it’s enough. So what I’m trying to do here is share a bit about myself, what inspires me every day to work in this specialized, traditionally male-dominated industry, and what I’m doing to get the word out that IT is where it’s at for women, now more than ever.
Now, I’m not the first woman in IT. No; far from it.There have been brave and intelligent women working in information technology since the late 1800s/early 1900s. Can I hear it for Sister Mary Kenneth Keller? Yeah, Sister! IT is brave women like this woman that have made it possible for me to share my experiences with you today, and IT is for future generations of girls that I’m excited to contribute to the field of information technology in my own way.
So thank you for joining me on my IT journey. No matter what gender you count yourself among, I hope my blog posts will help you gain a new perspective, learn something new, and inspire you to contribute in your own way, as I try to do; using what I’ve learned to make life better than it might have been yesterday.
